Wrapping Things Up

It is now the final week of the semester and I am currently on Stage. Time is flying and graduation is around the corner! I am very excited to be done, as I feel highly motivated to dive deeply into working and building my own business on the side. I am full of ideas, drive, and passion.

Nonetheless, as I look back I also know that I will miss many things about being in the Graphic and Web Design Program at John Abbott College. Being such a small group of students, we have really gotten to know each other well over the past 3 years. We recently had a vernissage exposition which was a very full-circle moment. We gathered after the event for dinner and a small party.

It is a funny feeling to finish something, a mix of reminiscing while also feeling the curiosity of what comes next. What I find most important, is to always follow your heart no matter what you do. That is what I did when I started this program, and that is what I intend to do moving forward.

I would describe the entire feeling as one of entering a new phase in life. I adore how unique everyone’s paths are, and it is truly a beautiful thing to experience the unveiling of one’s own path.

As of now, I am trying to finalize all of my end of semester work, while striving to excel at my stage placement, all while keeping up with freelance work. I have a lot on my plate, yes, but I am so full of gratitude for all of the opportunities and blessings in my life at the moment, including that of finishing up school!

I am not sure if I will be back in school one day, maybe for a certificate. We will see where my heart takes me!

Short Term Goals: Education, Career, and Passion

Short Term Goals: Education, Career, and Passion

As a highly goal-driven individual, I am actively pursuing several goals that I aim to accomplish within the next year. My primary focus is on completing my education and establishing a strong foundation for my entry into the workforce. To achieve this, I am consistently working hard and remaining focused on several endeavors.

One of my primary focuses is the development of a strong portfolio. This will be instrumental in showcasing my skills and strengths as a designer. Additionally, I am gaining valuable experience in my current role in communications at the Royal Montreal Golf Club. I am also undertaking freelance work, all while planning a clearer vision for my post-graduation career and education.

Once graduated, looking ahead to the Summer and September of 2024, I will continue my role at the Royal Montreal Golf Club, where I will be actively involved in graphics and communications for the club during the 2024 Presidents Cup event. However, prior or after this, I also aspire to explore different positions to broaden my industry exposure and collaborate with new individuals.

This considered, I would love to work somewhere new during my stage placement in my final semester. I am deeply passionate about learning, adapting to new environments, and maximizing the value that I can contribute.

In addition to my career pursuits, I have a passion for wellness, health, and fitness. I am continuously focused on improving my knowledge and lifestyle choices in these areas. With this in mind, I aim to create a path that allows me to integrate my passion for graphic design with my interest in health and wellness.

Overall, I am looking to work hard, build new connections, align with my passions, and always learn more! I am a firm believer in doing what you love, while always remembering that this takes an ample amount of hard work, consistency, and dedication.

Long Term Goals: My Career Aspirations

Long Term Goals: My Career Aspirations

Looking ahead to the long term, roughly 5 to 10 years into the future, my aspiration is to secure a creative position that harmonizes with my core values. Specifically, I envision myself engaged in tasks such as graphic design for both print and web, digital media content creation, communication facilitation, or any related role. Ideally, I’d like to contribute my skills and creativity to a company that places a high emphasis on well-being, environmental consciousness, travel, or fitness.

Nevertheless, I’m not one to confine myself to a narrow career trajectory. I firmly believe that by consistently prioritizing personal and professional growth, and cultivating meaningful connections, I will naturally gravitate toward my destined path. Ultimately, my overarching goals encompass finding genuine satisfaction in my work. That is, both building strong relationships and maintaining my overall well-being.

Throughout my academic journey, I’ve had the privilege of exploring such roles through various projects focused on print and web design. For instance, I recently crafted a packaging design concept for a fictional brand called “Lively,” centred around a healthy energy drink, displayed below.

Moreover, I had the opportunity to collaborate on an extensive branding project for a hypothetical travel agency named “Illo”. This project, involving myself and two other designers, was a great experience. It allowed us to explore imaginative ways of conveying the brand’s values and create a cohesive collection of both print and digital materials.

Looking ahead to the next 5 to 10 years, I foresee a broader spectrum of accomplishments in my educational journey. I plan to invest in additional courses and expand my knowledge, acquiring further certificates or degrees within the creative field.

Additionally, I aspire to dive into my own graphic design venture. This would involve a dual role, working with various brands on the side while also maintaining a position within a larger company. Depending on my alignment with the freelance work, I may even contemplate transitioning to a full-time freelance career.
